Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Understand your inner world. Cultivate compassion. Create meaningful change.
What is IFS?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is the process of getting to know all the parts that make up a person. Rather than exiling or suppressing parts, we build a relationship with them and make space to hear what they’re trying to communicate and how they may be trying to protect us or help us avoid pain. As those parts feel more understood and less alone in their roles, there can be more harmony among them and a greater sense of peace.
What should I expect in a session?
A session might begin with something the client wants to understand or work through. We’d slow down, notice the parts that show up around it, and approach them with curiosity and compassion. The aim is to better understand the client’s inner world and create more room for choice and self-understanding.
“Elizabeth's methodology started with getting to know me with personality, skill, and aptitude tests which were extremely helpful. I have previously been familiar with similar tests but was never able to translate them into career paths. I was stuck knowing what I'm good at but being in a position where I wouldn't use any of my skills. Elizabeth helped me find career choices which would suit my skills, personality, and provide the work environment I was looking for. Throughout the process, I had uncountable A-ha moments and she was able to make a connection that I hadn't been able to make my entire life! The last aspect of the program was to create a plan that I could follow after the program ended so that I wouldn't lose sight of my new goals. Elizabeth still follows up with me regularly to see what progress I have made on my plan and to hold me accountable which is incredibly valuable.” - VP, Tech Start-up
